Bulletin #47 - NSW Coroner Makes Recommendations from Armani Inquest

In October 2008 the NSW Coroner made formal recommendations pursuant to Section 22A of the Coroners Act 1980 in regard to two specific issues:

  • That a standardised system of identifying swimmers and non swimmers be introduced by the use of coloured wrist bands for students who are participating in fun days or unstructured pool activities.
  • The second recommendation is that the Royal Life Saving Society of Australia and the NSW Department of Education & Training should adopt the policy of the Blue Mountains City Council and ensure that a ratio of 1 lifeguard to 50 students is applied for all unstructured pool activities by primary school children.

Royal Life Saving WA will begin a review process so that the Aquatic Industry can consider and repond to the above recommendations.
